Default How do people get rich off chest runs?

I've done alot of chest runs lately, and spent alot of money on keys and stuff. But I haven't got any kind of good drops at all. I would go to Vabbi or some place around there, buy some keys, head out, and come back with all unperfect mods for staffs or hammers worth 300 gold to the merchant. So I try to make the best of it and advertise in Kamadan any kind of mods that I think have any hope of being sold, but one wants a req 9 ancient shield, so that gets tossed out the window, along with some other stuff that I think people might like. Yet alot of people I know get rich off of these chest runs.

So if some of you guys here could tell me where I could solo chest run to get items that I could actually sell, or just some tips on chest running itself, that would be great. (I use my Ranger and my Dervish to run)

I'm not sure on it, but chest runs get u rich if u check unidentified items for simple mods (fortitude, vamp, zealous) on popular items, these u can ID. The rest wil go to market for unideed objects, which will return the lockpick to you. If you want the wisdom title as well u better do some killing along that will let flow in some cash as well. Just my opinion, drops are usually not that good, and unideed items give better returns the the few mods u get and sell on the market. Tha last thing is just a drag and costs u alot of time, just sell things that are easy to sell or worth alot.

Running in a higher level area helps too. I run in Southern Shiverpeaks for myself sometimes (Outside of Grotto, only mursaat surrounded chests) and get perfect mursaat weapons after buying about 100 Shiverpeak Keys. Thats 60k, I make around 200-300k off of the items. Thats how we do it. =)

First, you have to start off with lots of plat - you are looking for a *very* rare drop and that takes many many chests, chests take keys/lockpicks, and they take gold.

Second it takes time, lots of time - your not going to get an elemental sword a day, or really even one a week even with fairly large amounts of play time. It is a very long term strategy and you have to play as such.

Effectively, they are chest farming areas that have a "high" chance of dropping something really rare, high being that you may get a few in your lifetime if you farm moderately (and if you are unlucky as I was it will have no mod). It's really rare, if 5 hours of chest farming and 10k of keys got you a req9 elemental sword then it wouldn't be listed as 500k+ in the PC forums.

You can not get a really rare item to drop often. It takes a large pool of gold to draw from and time to do the chest running. You have to know price and drop rate to know if you ought to merch, sell ultra cheap, or try to get what it is worth. I normally merch unless it I happen to get something high end, though I have only had one real high end drop for me in about 1500 hours of play.

Take the time of factions for example. People ran the endgame forbidden chests like crazy, farming them for rare things like golden phoenix blade, etc. If you hit the jackpot with the golden phoenix blade, you get anywhere from 75k-300k back by selling it, which is enough for up to 500 keys. On top of that, there are other fairly decent skins (oni blade, etc.) that can sell for 5-20k each. Besides those big money makers, you get a variety of mods and other items that you can merch to get some gold back.

Nowadays, there are still areas that yield a decent return of gold. Examples are in margonite areas in south shivs, anywhere where magmas shields drop, and DoA areas.

Granted, it takes a lot of time to run all those chests and then to sell the loot, but a lot of people strike it lucky and get a super rare drop after just 20 chests...

i would imagine that making considerable amounts of gold from chest running is very very hard now.

most of the drops in gw suck now and are worthless making the chances of getting a drop worth reselling next to none.

chests no longer drop either gold or purple so you cant run in a group and take it in turns to open chests to save keys.

if you want to get rich, power trade. its the only way which still works in getting filthy rich. you could buy a limited mini pet when just released hold on to it for a week or so then resell for hundreds of ecto more, i see alot of people doing that now.

Thanks guys. Hey, today outside of Grotto when I was chest running, I found a req 9 mursaat bow, someone want to just tell me very quickly how much it's worth? (be nice and just tell me here instead of saying "price check forum, noob").

the stats would help i.e. the inherent damage modifier e.g.

mursaat horn bow

dmg +15% while in stance

and seeing as you would need to make a new post or edit your old one it would be easier and more rule abiding to go do it in the pc forum

Power trading is boring. Hell trading in general is.

Chest runs can still get you rich. Guildy of mine has been running the Titan Chest in Domain of Fear and the lucky git got himself 2 Magmas Shields, 1 was r9, dunno what the other was. And that was from a very small amount of lockpicks.
